Ben-Tobi (Gut), Shlomo


Son of Max-Meir and Ida. He was born on the 20th of Kislav, December 12, 1919, in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. He immigrated to Israel in 1937 as part of the Youth Aliyah from Germany. He was a member of the Hagana from the day he arrived in Israel. According to the order of national institutions, he joined and served in the Jewish Brigade. In February 1946, he went to military academy for officers in England and finished in September 1946. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he was drafted into full service. He served in the People’s Guard, moved to the officers’ school and eventually served in the police force with the rank of captain. On the 26th of Tammuz 5710 (11.7.1950) he passed away and was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. He left behind a wife and a daughter.
