Ben-Eliyahu, Amos-Menashe

Son of Eliyahu and Batia. Born in 1936 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, the father, who had always been loyal to the idea of Zionism, decided that the time had come to liquidate his business and bring all his family to Israel. The family began to immigrate to Israel and in 1947 Amos arrived in Israel accompanied by a tour guide: He moved to the village of Kfar Giladi and was immediately transferred by the Youth Aliyah to a children’s institution in Kfar Haroeh , But due to a lack of adaptation he left the institution a few months later and joined his family, which had settled in Ramat Gan. He was immediately admitted to the “Yahalom” elementary school (after three years of study at the Kol Israel Haverim school abroad) until his graduation. He belonged to Hanoar Haoved. With all his desire to join his friends for further studies in the Gymnasia, he was unable to do so because of lack of financial means; Therefore, he began working in various jobs and even studying a profession. He was finally hired in the “Shalav” cooperative and in the evenings he attended evening classes. But when he reached the age of 17, he decided that the time had come for him to enlist, and he did so, completed a course for a squad commander and was sent for a preparatory test for officers ‘course, but because of the Sinai Campaign he could not finish the officers’ course. After the fighting ended Amos continued his service until he was transferred to a special unit and to a special position there. Only a few days after his transfer, on 8/12/1956, he was seriously injured while carrying out his duties and died of his wounds and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
