Ben Dor, Issachar


Son of Deborah and Joseph. Yissachar was born on December 1, 1925 in the city of Warsaw in Poland because Shachar Tantzman. The story of the week in which he was born is Parashat Vayishlach in the Book of Genesis, as it is written there (35: 23): “The sons of Leah are the firstborn of Jacob, ReuSon of, Shimon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.” Yissachar’s father, Joseph Tanzman, was born in Stolin, Poland. His mother, Dora nee Manzon, was born in Rovno. The family immigrated to Israel in 1940. Issachar arrived in Israel at the age of fifteen and was accepted to the Geula High School for Commerce. He was an excellent student. This school was very prestigious. Issachar began his career as a student of mathematics, physics and chemistry. He was an outstanding student and brilliant, but had to stop his studies before graduation because his widowed mother had difficulty breaking up a partnership in a textile shop with her late husband’s partners. Yissachar, as the eldest son, felt obligated to help his mother untie the business entanglement, and helped her establish a galantery shop. Yissachar’s life dream was to study textile engineering abroad, and he was accepted to study in England with a classmate named Golus who later founded the well-known factory Solog. In 1951, Yissachar worked for the Israel Police, when the then Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, David son of-Gurion, was given the order to pass on the surnames, saying: “We must proudly and proudly carry the name Hebrew in the Land of the Hebrews – in the Land of Israel. “Issachar called himself son of Dor, aiming to be the son of his mother Dora, Issachar, now from generation to generation He served as a prosecutor in a criminal branch in the Tel Aviv District, a shopping officer, a senior officer in the planning department, a deputy commander of the Petah Tikva-Sharon district, and a head of the police A tour and management office, a school instructor for senior officers, the head of the planning department and the head of the tour and operations department. He served as economic advisor to Minister Shlomo Hillel for only a month, and asked to return to the National Headquarters. In 1974, ten days before his death, Issachar returned to the national headquarters and was appointed head of the planning department. Yissachar was a brilliant man, very intelligent, with outstanding articulation and expression. He was a warm, pleasant, reliable man with a sympathetic and reassuring voice with a rolling Polish trace. You could trust him at home, and you could count on him with his eyes closed. Issachar, who excelled in his work, was promoted three times in ten years. In 1962 he was a young commanding officer, a senior instructor at the School for Senior Officers. In 1963 he received the rank of Chief Inspector, and in 1972 he was already a colonel. This has not happened in the history of the Israel Police until then. No one had ever climbed so fast in the ranks like him. Yissachar was also the driving force in the organization for parties and balls of the police. He also initiated and organized the Jubilee Conference for his high school “Geula”, as well as the reunion of his classmates in this high school. Commander Issachar fell during his service on the 22nd of February, 1974. He was buried in the cemetery in Givat Shaul, Jerusalem, leaving a wife – Martha, two sons – Yossi and Eitan, brother and sister – Meir and Yonati. Issachar’s death was dedicated to his memory by the family and his friends at the corner of the policeman’s house at 2 Paran Street in Ramot Eshkol, Jerusalem, after the ceremony at the cemetery 70 years after the birth of Issachar His son Eitan commemorated his name on behalf of his eldest daughter, Shahar . Eitan took the last three letters of Issachar, rearranging the letters , and so he received his birthright in this charming name.
