Ben-Atar, Yaakov


Was born on the 20th of Tevet, January 25, 1927 in Jerusalem and studied at a yeshiva boys in Jerusalem, and when he reached seventh grade he went to work to help his parents. On one of the days of curfew in Jerusalem Yaakov was arrested by the British and imprisoned for eight days as a suspect in underground membership. With the establishment of the state and the dissolution of the Irgun, Yaakov joined the IDF and fought in Lod, Ramle, Jaffa, Ashdod, Yavne and Latrun. In one of the battles in the Negev he was slightly injured and came to his home for a short vacation. In the Egyptian bombing of Tel Aviv on 4 Tamuz, July 11, 1948, his apartment was hit and Yaakov and his mother were fatally wounded. Yaakov was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
