Bash, David (Dundi)

Bash, David (Dundi)

Son of Malka and Gershon-Ya’akov Bash was born on November 7, 1925 in the city of Marmarosh-Sighet, which was a large and important Jewish center in northwest Romania. He arrived in Israel in August 1944 and was put in the detention camp for illegal immigrants in Atlit. When he was released, there was little work anywhere and he struggled for his existence. Immediately after the United Nations General Assembly resolution, he joined the Haganah, served in the Kiryati Brigade and fought in the battles on the borders of Tel Aviv and its environs. David was killed on May 16, 1948 while standing at the airport in Tel Aviv during the bombing of Egyptian enemy aircraft. He was brought to rest in a mass grave in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
