Barzilai, Avraham (Avi)

Barzilai, Avraham (Avi)

Suzie and Jacob’s third son. He was born on March 14, 1983, at Wolfson Hospital in Holon. A younger brother to Rafael and Maya, and a brother to Shai. My father was born in Holon and on his fifth birthday the family moved to Netanya. He studied at Mesilot Elementary School in Netanya and was a smart and diligent student, a sports enthusiast, especially a runner, and a great basketball player. Avi continued his studies at the ORT Guttman School of Electrical and Electronics at the “Ort Gutman” six-year school and graduated with honors. My father’s teacher eulogized him after his death: “You were active in society, outstanding in studies, loved by all, a friend of the soul, and always willing to help.” Ort Gutman’s principal described him as a smiling boy who donated to others: “You were a student and an outstanding person,” she said. In the yearbook, it was written: “A quiet student and a smart guy, he failed in the test he never received, he continues to study at the college, to be an electrician and his great aspiration. My father loved to work and continued to do so both during and after his studies. He was diligent and diligent in all areas of life – in his studies and in his work – and he achieved all his goals and succeeded successfully. He saved money, which helped him and his family. My father loved to help his parents and they were very proud of him. My father was tall and handsome. His kindness and manners were his hallmark. Quiet and modest, respected others and acquired many friends. He loved to travel and drive, but most of all he loved to spend time and laugh with his family and many friends, especially backgammon, basketball and the sea. After completing his high school studies, he refused to enlist in order to continue his studies at the Ort Hermelin College of Engineering in Netanya, but after six months he decided to leave school. On July 9, 2001, he enlisted in the Ordnance Corps. Avi underwent basic training at the Dotan base and was trained in the Ground Equipment Technicians Course at the Zrifin Armaments School, Training Base 20. At the end of the course, on February 17, 2002, Avi was placed in the Shimshon Unit – Northern Command. At this base, the various units deal with the maintenance and repair of a variety of weapons, and Avi is assigned the role of retrieving generators in the special workshop – a technician responsible for the maintenance of the ground equipment. His friends at the base said that he was always happy to help and contribute, but did not like to stand out and keep his privacy. His commanders testified to my father that he was a talented and highly disciplined soldier, a tolerant, humble and sympathetic man who had a strong desire to contribute to the IDF. The first person I saw was that a soldier was sitting in front of me, who wanted to serve the country loyally, and to give his talents to the unit and his colleagues. Despite the difficult situation in the family, and despite the distance from home, Avraham showed a joy of life, determination, tolerance and devotion. During the few months he served in the special workshop, he gained the sympathy of his colleagues in the unit and expressed his skills. “He used to go out to his house once or twice a week, but on the eve of the attack he went to an unexpected” Apter “and surprised his parents. Went to the bus stop with his father and left on the 830 line, which left Tel Aviv for Tiberias, and the bus arrived at the Megiddo junction where a terrible suicide bombing was carried out by a suicide bomber near Megiddo Prison. Laden with soldiers and civilians, and blew it up, and the bus was blown up by a blast Seventeen of those killed in the attack were soldiers in the regular army. Avi Barzilai managed to serve in the army for six months until he fell in a terrorist attack at the Megiddo junction on June 5, 2002. He was laid to rest in the cemeteryA military man in Netanya, and he is nineteen years old when he died. Survived by his parents, two brothers – Rafi and Shai, and a sister – Maya. My father was promoted to corporal after his death. The four soldiers of the “Shimshon” munitions workshop who fell in the attack are First Sergeant Eliran Buskila; Sergeant Dotan Reizel; Corporal Liron Avitan; And Corporal Vladimir Murray. Other soldiers who fell in the attack were First Sergeant Gandhi Isakov; First Sergeant Zvika Gelbard; First sergeant Yigal Navor; First Sergeant David Stanislavski; Sergeant Sivan Wiener; Sergeant Violeta Hizgiyev; Sergeant Cheriel Katz; Corporal Dennis Blumin. The civilians killed: Zion Agmon, Adi Dahan, Shimon Timsit and Eliyahu Timsit. Thirty-four others were injured in the attack. The family memoirs in memory of my father were printed on a postcard, on the other side of which was written the prayer of the road: “We are sure that your tenderness and love remain with you up in the sky as you projected it upon us. We know that you are giving it now to the angels of heaven. You knew how to love and gave love, you wanted to be stroked and stroked back, everything that you touched was a blessing, turned between us like a horn that only spread light and heat, light You never had a word that would never extinguish and a heat that would never stop For yourself. ” “My father had many ambitions and dreams, but a despicable creature came and destroyed the dream and opened a deep, bottomless pit in his heart, from which only sadness begins, light, warmth, beauty and character, talent and love – Swallowed the earth and covered our treasury. ” His brother wrote: “Who knows, who wants to believe / that a treasure like you even wants God / He just lent you to us / And took you back from us / You are now an angel between angels / Flower between flowers / Light at the end of the tunnel. / Our ways will meet some day / / Take care of yourself and us / Because you are up in the sky / Look at all of us. Colonel Ofer Golinski, commander of the armaments unit that lost five of its soldiers in the attack, said: “My father, in your meetings with your family, I learned that you were a diligent student, an excellent basketball player, and I loved very much to help your parents who are very proud of you and do not stop talking about you. And to document every picture and article in the album as a souvenir … You knew how to be an exemplary figure, because of your qualities and qualities, you were very conspicuous in your modesty and your skills. Major Yitzhak Cohen, the commander of the workshop, described my father and his absorption in the armaments workshop: “… a quiet, modest and handsome soldier, you quickly integrated into the unit, and many friends you acquired in such a short period. On Wednesday morning, June 5, 2002, everything changed … We lost a soldier and a friend who was a role model and admiration … “” On that cursed date on June 5, 2002, in the terrorist attack at the Megiddo junction, we all lacked a beat, Sergeant Major Uzi Alkobi, the company’s divisional sergeant, shared his feelings: “My father, the first question asked was where is my father, the guy with the charming and rare smile, the round face that Haim raises? Like a sweet little baby, the guy that the company took in with great love, like a family, the guy he liked so much in such a short time, the guy who penetrated our hearts with all his good intentions, my father, where are you? A kingdom with no cold and dark shadow, a kingdom where angels are friends, angelsNever lost, angels who are life. My father, my brother, we will always remember you, in the company, in the platoon, as friends and in life. You are the one who has left so deep a mark on all of us that we will never forget you, and this is the small and secret agreement between me and you, an agreement signed by blood, an agreement that will never be used! … “The name of Corporal Avraham Barzilai is commemorated at the initiative of bereaved families At the Megiddo junction, where the names of the 17 victims of the attack are engraved.
