Yosef excelled in his studies and was deeply involved in kibbutz life. When he was in 12th grade, he served as the secretary of the kibbutz’s young society, which was composed of high school students, and was very successful in this role: He was a brilliant mathematician and his 12th grade thesis was on the subject of “convex bodies on the plane” And was awarded the high score of 9+ by his examiner – a professor of mathematics at the Technion in Haifa. After graduating from high school, he was a member of the Oded group in the town of Shlomi and acquired many friends among his apprentices who admired him. Yosef was drafted into the IDF in early 1976 and began his service in the Infantry Corps, completing a parachute training course, and began commanding various positions in the opinion of his commanders: “Excellent professional, And a lot of combat experience, admired by his soldiers because he was modest, pleasant and friendly. ” On April 16, 1979, Yosef participated in an ambush against terrorists in the Zerit region on the Lebanese border, and Joseph, who was twenty-two years old, was brought to rest on Kibbutz Afikim. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit wrote: “Yossi arrived at my unit from an excellent reconnaissance unit, and I had no doubt that he would stand out in every position he was given in light of his rich combat experience and in light of the assessments he received from his commanders in the past. Yossi did indeed quickly integrate into the unit; Fell in love with the soldiers and soon became a central figure in the company, a model figure as a man and a warrior. His parents will donate to him a sum of money to expand the subject of Judaism in the library of the regional college in the Jordan Valley, which is an extension of Bar-Ilan University.
