Bar-El (Benetaya), Avraham


Avraham (Avi), son of Ilana and Eliahu, was born on January 17, 1952 in Moshav Hatzav. He attended the Gordon Elementary School in Ashkelon and continued his studies at the Tagger High School in the real world. Avraham began his studies at the age of five and all the years he was a diligent and diligent student, loved by his teachers and accepted by his friends. His tongue was fluent and rich and he excelled in knowledge of the country and mathematics. He was very successful in the survey. He was a member of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed youth movement and was a member of the youth movement and a member of the Ashkelon Shooting Club, and he liked to model airplanes, travel and tour the country and especially the shores of the Red Sea, and read books dealing with knowledge of the country. Avraham was drafted into the IDF in early August 1970 and volunteered for the air force. But because of illness he was forced to leave the soldier and then asked to be transferred to the armored corps. After completing his basic training, he completed a course in the “Centurion” tank course and a course for tank commanders. For his participation in operational activities he was awarded the “Operational Service Award”. In the certificate given to him when he was released from regular service, his commander wrote: “Avraham was a disciplined soldier, very loyal and dedicated.” After his release, he began studying at a pre-academic preparatory course at the Negev University in Be’er Sheva, where he planned to study construction engineering and manufacturing. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, Avraham was not drafted because he was not yet assigned to a reserve unit after his release in August of that year. But he did not delay and left with a group of friends to the northern front, in order to contribute his part to the defense of the state. He took part in the battle against the Syrians. During the war he made sure to write home every day. In one of his last letters he asked his parents to contact the father of his fallen friend. On October 21, 1973, Avraham was hit by artillery fire in the Beit Ja’az plantation and killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the Ashkelon cemetery. Survived by father, mother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
