Bain, Moshe (Conrad)

Bain, Moshe (Conrad)

The only son of Anna and Arthur. He was born in Magdeburg, Germany, to a veteran Zionist family, and when the Nazis came to power in Germany, the family immigrated to Eretz Israel and settled in the Bat Galim neighborhood of Haifa. After a period of inactivity, he was hired as a sailor on Mount Zion, which sailed between the British ports and the Mediterranean ports, and later joined the convoys of ships that crossed the Atlantic Ocean. With the aim of breaking through the siege of the British submarines by the German submarines, on one of these voyages, on August 1, 1940, “Mount Zion” was hit by a German submarine and plunged into the depths, along with 33 sailors, Moshe among them. He left old parents who saw no point in their lives with the death of their only son and committed suicide.
