Bachar, Aryeh (Lonnie)


Aryeh (Lonnie), son of Chava and Chizkiyahu Bachar, was born on January 14, 1931 in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Aryeh was educated in the spirit of the national tradition. His father was the secretary of the Tzahar Center in Bulgaria, where he learned Hebrew fluently and wrote articles in the Hebrew press in Bulgaria. In 1944, he made aliya to Israel, learned for two years in the school in Mishmar Hasharon, and later studied at the Max Payne Professional School in Tel Aviv, where he became a mechanic. Aryeh sent his Zionist articles to the Hebrew press abroad, and immediately acclimated to life in Eretz Yisrael. He joined the Irgun underground and served with diligence and energy. Aryeh died on the 20th of NIssan, 29.4.1948 in the battle for the conquest of Jaffa and was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
