Azran, Avraham

Avraham, son of Dada and Masoud, was born in Morocco in 1941 and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1955. He first completed his elementary studies in his native country of Morocco, and his family moved to Beit Shemesh. Many of his brothers were younger than him and until his enlistment in the IDF, he worked with his father in auxiliary farms on behalf of the Jewish National Fund and was one of the only supporters of his family. When his father’s work became difficult for him, Avraham became the main breadwinner of his family of many souls. He was a devoted son to his parents and brother to his brothers. He always did for them as much as he could, so that they could learn and devote all his energies to dealing with matters of home and family. Avraham was drafted into the IDF in August 1959. After completing basic training he was assigned to a position as a company commander, and after a year he was transferred to a position as a rifleman. During the Yom Kippur War, Avraham took part in the battle against the Egyptians in the Sinai, during which he was hit by a sniper’s fire, and for a year he was absent and the searches were conducted throughout the area. Avraham was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery on Mount Herzl, leaving behind a wife – Aliza, three children – Irit, Asher and Tali, parents, brothers and sisters. His parents commemorated him by donating a Torah scroll to the synagogue where he used to pray.
