Avidar (Marder), Reuven (Richard)


Reuven (Richard), son of Elka and Mordecai, was born on January 21, 1938, in Aluf, Poland, and immigrated to Israel with his mother and brother, a Holocaust survivor, in 1948. He attended primary school He went on to study at the Air Force Technical School, where Reuven loved poetry and used to write poetry in his free time, and even left many of his poems behind: he was an optimistic and happy person, never complained of difficulties He was always willing to help others, and Reuven was a man of work who never failed to do hard work, and he always did his work with all his dedication. Reuven was conscripted into the IDF in mid-May 1955 and assigned to the IAF. He aspired to serve as a pilot, but because of a wound in his eye he was prevented from fulfilling his ambition, and he was assigned to one of the soldier’s pilots, as an aircraft engine mechanic. He was later transferred to the Navy as a torpedo mechanic. After being discharged from regular service in the IDF, Reuven was called for reserve duty, was transferred to the Armored Corps, took a reconnaissance course and was assigned to a jeep reconnaissance company, and during the Yom Kippur War Reuven took part in the battles against the Egyptians in Sinai. (11.10.1973) Participated in the battle that took place in the Wadi Suder area During the battle his jeep encountered ambush and fire exchanges at close range Reuven was injured and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul and left behind a wife and four children He was promoted to the rank of sergeant
