Ashri, Zechariah
Son of Zahara and Shalom, was born in 1927 in the city of Algebrai, Yemen. He studied in Talmud Torah and turned to weaving. In 1942, when he was 16, he immigrated to Israel. At first he joined a youth group in the Shfeya youth village and studied general studies. From there he moved to his uncle’s apartment in the Hatikva neighborhood. For a while he served as a guard at Tel Litwinsky, and when he finished his service he began to work in weaving. From the wages of his labor he sent to his parents who remained in the Diaspora. In March 1948, he enlisted. He participated in many systems and courageously stood up, but he also had moments of despair, remembering his parents. Ars had a wife but postponed the date of his marriage “until the land is released from the burden of foreigners.” Zechariah excelled in his politeness and his love of order, loved society, and avoided quarrels and provocation. On the 17th of Iyar 5708 (May 26, 1948) he fell in battle in Latrun. On the 17th of Tishrei 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
