Ashkenazi, David


Son of Esther and Yitzhak, was born on January 27, 1927 in the city of Adrianople in Turkey. In 1935 the family immigrated to Israel and settled in Binyamina. The father served as a guard in the village and David, aged ten, helped him sometimes in his work, and even then acquired knowledge and interest in weapons. The Ashkenazi family moved to Tel Aviv and David joined the Irgun Zvai Leumi. When the War of Independence broke out, he participated as a member of the Irgun in defending the borders of Tel Aviv, and immediately after his enlistment, he served as a combat soldier in the Givati ​​Brigade. David was known for his bravery and strong desire to be among the first to storm the battle. On the 2nd of Sivan, June 9, 1948, he fell in the battle for Beit Daras, when a fragment of a mortar shell pierced his neck. David was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Tuvia.
