Ashkenazi, Aryeh (Leib)


Son of Susya and Pinchas, was born in 1900 in the city of Rezina, in the region of Serbia, Russia. He studied at the Heder and at the elementary school and in 1920 he immigrated with a convoy of pioneers to Israel. Here he worked in agriculture and later in the building as a plasterer and was always a loyal friend of the workers and his Histadrut and fulfilled his duty in the Haganah. He participated in the defense of his place of residence, Herzliya and its surroundings, in the 1929 riots, and in the events of 1936-1939. According to his age and marital status, he was exempt from regular service during the War of Independence, but did his duty properly, served in the Alexandroni Brigade and stood guard at the Arab village of Kfar Sava (the village between Kfar Sava and Qalqiliya) on 26.6. 1948) and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Herzliya.
