Asayag, Gabriel


Son of Yitzhak and Miriam. He was born on May 11, 1957 in Morocco and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1961. The family settled in Be’er Sheva, and Gabriel began studying at the Maoz elementary school in the city. After graduating from school, he was accepted to the Ein Kerem agricultural high school in Jerusalem. During his studies, he was a member of the Gadna and took part in all the activities that were conducted on his behalf, and Gabriel was drafted into the IDF in early November 1975 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After completing basic training, Gavriel was posted as a pilot in the base of the recruits of the Armored Corps, and his commanders noted that “he was a good and dedicated commander and contributed his ability to advance the unit.” In recognition of his abilities and abilities as a commander, his commanders recommended him for an officers’ course. On the 6th of Kislev 5737 (6.12.1976) Gabriel fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Beersheba. Survived by his parents, brother and two sisters. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander said that “Gabriel was loved by his soldiers and commanders, devoted to the base and proud of the IDF.”
