Aruv, Assaf-Simhoni (champion)
The youngest son of Menachem and Esther. He was born on the 16th of Kislev 5711 (16.11.1956) in Rehovot. His name was given to him in memory of the late Maj. Gen. Asaf Simhoni, who was killed at the same time as a son of the elderly and loved by his brothers and sisters and a source of consolation and pride for his parents. And went on to finish the high school yeshiva in Kfar Chabad, with a specialization in automotive mechanics. Assaf discovered a great deal of talent and a quick grasp of this profession, and in the blink of an eye, as he rummaged through the car, he found what needed to be fixed. Assaf was a strong and healthy lad, and his great energy found him an outlet in many ways: he was active in sports, except with great talent for guitar, and together with his brother he established a well-formed rhythm band that performed with great success. He also enjoyed sitting down next to drums and drumming to himself many melodies and rhythms. Assaf was kind and helpful to others. This positive trait came to be discovered during his studies, when his classmates used to address him with every question and problem. Asaf-Simhoni was drafted into the IDF in early February 1975 and was assigned to the Chief Rabbinate of the IDF. During his service Assaf also took care of his mother. He fulfilled his duties to the satisfaction of his superiors. On the 27th of Sivan 5735 (June 1, 1975), after only four months of service, Rabbi Asaf Simchoni, who was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Ramleh, left behind his parents, six brothers and two sisters, Condolences to the family His commander wrote: “Assaf was a beloved soldier of his commanders and his friends, with lofty qualities of humility and devotion to the job.” His family commemorated the introduction of two Torah scrolls in his name to a synagogue in Holon.
