Artzi, Yitzhak (“Aki”)

Son of Yoel and her face. He was born in Kibbutz Dagania on January 24, 1939. After completing his studies, he completed elementary and high school in the Jordan Valley and joined the “Hanoar Haoved” movement in August 1957. He passed a pilot course. And since completing the course he has served in vital positions in the corps. At the end of his regular service, he was registered for the permanent army. Since his contract for the permanent army was concluded on November 11, 1962, an application was submitted from the Air Force headquarters for approval for a further extension of his career in the regular army for a period of five years. This is done so that it can be maintained at flight level and promoted in rank. He served as a pilot in the unit and reached the rank of major. During his days of service he was noted as an officer who endeavored to show his will, energy and initiative to succeed in his positions and to carry out his work in the most successful manner in his dedication to and responsibility for the job. On the 28th of Marcheshvan 5728 (December 1, 1967), Yitzhak was a combat pilot in an airplane over the Gulf of Suez and did not return. He left a wife and two daughters – the youngest of them both a year and a half old. Since he did not return from his activities, a monument was placed in his memory for the missing soldiers in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. In the collection “Bimkom” of the Union of Kibbutzim and Kibbutzim in memory of his fallen comrades, his words were brought to his attention. This fallen hero is a “maklan” – a hero whose burial place is unknown.
