Anavim, Alon

Anavim, Alon

Son of Haviva and Shlomo, he was born on 21.8.1953 in Moshav Arbel in the Lower Galilee, the second son of the Anavim family, who were one of the founders of the moshav. He spent his elementary years at the “HaKozer” school in Kfar Hitim. Alon was a member of the Hanoar Haoved movement and loved to read and travel in Israel, and when he enlisted in the IDF, he was accepted to the Armored Corps and participated in the Yom Kippur War. He fought on both sides of the Suez Canal and was even injured in the battle. When he finished his service, he returned to the moshav. He worked in the cooperative dairy, and then he established a family and farm and raised flowers and orchards. Alon and his wife Nechama had two children. When he was recruited for Operation Peace for Galilee, his home was under construction, but unfortunately he did not succeed in completing it. The patrol vehicle on which Alon traveled was ambushed on 2 Tamuz, 24 June 1982, when two of his comrades were killed. Alon died two weeks later. He was brought to eternal rest in Moshav Arbel, leaving a wife, two children, parents and four brothers and sisters, and his commander wrote to his family: “Alon was a good and dedicated soldier and loved by his friends and commanders.” For full memorial, see Hebrew biography.
