Amir, Shalom


Son of Haviva and Pinchas was born on May 5, 1927, in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen, and in 1930 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Tel Aviv Shalom completed elementary school and the vocational school He worked as a metalworker and recently worked at the Egged garage, where he was one of the active and loyal members of the “Hanoar Haoved” educational group, when he was 14 years old and joined the Gadna, Tel Aviv and served in the veteran department of the Hisham. In December 1947, with the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was sent with his friends to son of Shemen to protect the place. In January 1948 he was transferred to Jerusalem, where he joined the Moriah Battalion and defended the commercial center, Yemin Moshe. Shalom participated in the Ramat Rachel and Katamon systems and in a number of attacks on enemy positions that dominated the city. At work, in the movement and in the Haganah he was known as a good friend, devoted to the job, meticulous in order and pursuing justice. He sang well and used to sing when he was in the company. In one of the attacks on Sheikh Jarrah, his squad was sent to sabotage the position of the enemy and its armored vehicles, and in this action was hit by a bullet and fell on 17.5.1948. A monument in his memory was erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The space a memorial for those whose burial place is unknown.
