Altman, Yosef

Son of Luba Malka and Moshe. He was born in 1925 in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, and in 1946 he immigrated to Palestine after being interned in a refugee camp in Cyprus. He was drafted into the IDF and assigned to Battalion 23 in the Carmeli Brigade. On the 20th of Tishrei, 5709 (October 23, 1948), while he was holding his comrades in the Manara area, the outpost was attacked and conquered by a much larger enemy force, and it was the last time Joseph was seen alive.
