Alon, David


Son of Deborah and Moshe, was born on October 13, 1925 in Tel Aviv. After graduating from elementary school in Tel Aviv he chose to work in carpentry. He served in the Palmach and joined the Palmach in 1948. After completing his service in the Palmach, he joined his friends in an independent kibbutz in Beer Ya’akov, who later settled in his permanent place, Nirim In the Negev. David excelled in the degree of responsibility in all his actions, which instilled confidence in the hearts of his friends, who used to say: “Dudu is here – there is no concern.” Even in the most dangerous situations he was confident. His uncle was in charge of the security of the spot. Long before the War of Independence broke out following the United Nations General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947 on the division of the land, saw what was born and did not spare any effort or sweat from itself or from its members, they were always diligent in their training and fortifications. On the fifteenth of Iyar 5708 (May 15, 1948) Nirim’s men, commanded by his uncle, repulsed the first attack of the Egyptians, but he himself fell in this attack with a shrapnel. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Nirim.
