Alkalai, Arye (Leon)


The only son of Linda and Yoseph was born on May 5, 1926 in Skovo, Bulgaria, and received his education at a French college. His desire to immigrate to Israel was realized in his twenties, in 1946. At first Arye worked as a laborer in Netanya, and later enlisted and became a police officer. From this service he went on to full military service and served in the Harel Brigade in Jerusalem. He showed his energy and devotion and his friends respected him for his kindness and courage. Arye fell on the 22nd of Iyar, May 31, 1948, in the Radar area, when he and his friend fell on a mine. Arye tried to save the friend, who was hit first, but was also killed there. Arye was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Anavim.
