Albrecht, Albert
Son of Emily and Leon, was born in 1930 in the city of Strasbourg, France, and was educated in a children’s institution in Paris called the Institute for the Protection of Jewish Children. In 1947 he immigrated to Palestine from Toulouse and lived for a while in the kibbutz. During the War of Independence, he enlisted and served in the 7th Brigade. When the Arab Legion entered the fighting, the situation of Jerusalem worsened and the road to it was cut off by the legion of Latrun. Operation “Son of-Nun A” was intended to break through the road to Jerusalem. The task was assigned to the newly established brigade 7, and it had to conquer Latrun and reach the Jerusalem area. For this purpose, the brigade was reinforced by a battalion of the Alexandroni Brigade. According to the plan, the battalion was assigned from Alexandroni to conquer Latrun. A 7th Brigade force would have to take control of the ridge south of Latrun, until Sha’ar Hagai and the rest of the brigade’s forces would move on the road to Kiryat Anavim. The forces left for their missions on the night of May 24-25, 1948. Soon after they left, they encountered Legionnaires who turned out to be better and were assisted by cannons, armored cars, and local Arabs. In the midst of the harsh retreat, in light of the enemy’s superiority and harsh weather conditions, many of the fighters fell. Among the many casualties was Albert, who fell in combat on the fifteenth of Iyar 5708 (24.5.1948). Left a sister – Ruth. On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem
