Akabel, Nissim

Nissim, son of Shoshana and Shlomo, was born on February 13, 1955, in Istanbul, Turkey. He was a month and a half old when the family immigrated to Israel and settled in Acre. When he was five, his family moved to Kiryat Ata, where he attended the “Lohamei Hagetaot” elementary school. My social friend was miracles, honest, kind and very devoted to his family. He was always prepared to take care of his brothers and younger sisters, in order to free his mother for a while. The verse in his mouth was: “Go for a walk, I will stay with the children.” At the age of eleven, Nissim began playing football and soon became a talented player. He played for the Kiryat Ata youth team and in 1971 received a shield, in appreciation of his contribution to the team. At the age of sixteen, Nissim moved to the Betar Nazareth-Elite group, Nissim read a lot about football and his team (which was a left-wing fan) rose quickly and reached the third division, mainly because of his excellent game. He was a great dancer, he loved to listen to pop music and Greek music, he was very good at drumming and he danced at the Nagler House where he was one of the best and the most beloved among the dancers. Nissim was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of May 1973. He passed the basic training with a high grade and was assigned to the unit as a klubai, and his older brother was married to his daughter, and Nissim became an adult among his brothers and sisters. On the way back to their home, they decided to stop a car that would take them home, and a car stopped at the Kiryat Bialik junction when the two of them were about to enter. A truck passed, hit them and killed them. He was buried in the cemetery in Kiryat Ata, leaving his parents, three brothers and two sisters in a letter to the grieving family The commander of the unit wrote: “As his commanders, friends and illustrators of the memory of Nissim Akbel, we are saddened by the tragic death of your most precious son.” Nissim Akbel was known to all of us as a quiet, comfortable and disciplined soldier. As a deep blow and deep sorrow, please receive our sincere condolences for the untimely death of your beloved son, may you never know sorrow. “
